Elapse, 2021

Elapse: an abstract landscape constructed through an installation of contemporary ceramic sculptures.
With Elapse, the landscape combines two types of sculptural forms: Foundation Stones; these are remnants of long-abandoned, once civilised architectural structures, building blocks of Human ingenuity, and Mountain forms representing the deep time of geology. As the planet continues beyond humanity in time, Volcano and Mountain forms represent the enduring. Each form carries memories of time passed, with imprints of biological life on Earth’s geological surface, marks of meteors travelling through galaxies demonstrating universal, deep geological time, and with the ruptures and distress of enduring the eons on their surfaces.
’Elapse’ composes an environment built from the earth’s extracted finite resources. The artist acknowledges that conserving these resources is essential to our survival.
We are reminded to be mindful in our choices, as with every choice there is a consequence.
